
Sanjay Zimmermann
General Partner | White Star Capital
Sanjay was born in Germany, grew up in Canada, studied in the US, started his first job in the UK, and holds three nationalities: Canadian, German, and Indian. Before joining White Star Capital in 2017, Sanjay worked in Investment Banking at Rothschild & Co in London, where he was part of the TMT team focusing on cross-border M&A. Before banking, and with the support of the Weissman Scholarship Program, he produced an informative video series titled Defining Entrepreneurship, in which he interviewed over 60 entrepreneurs across India, East Asia, and South America.
An alumnus of Babson College, The LSE, INSEAD, and The Wharton School, Sanjay is now based in Toronto and focuses on White Star Capital’s North American and Southeast Asian investment and fundraising opportunities.
Starting as an Associate in 2017, shortly after the close of White Star Capital’s first $70M fund, Sanjay has been an integral part of the firm’s growth to over $1B in assets under management. In recognition of his achievements, he was promoted to Partner in January 2023.
Sanjay now serves as a General Partner at White Star Capital, where he Co-Leads the new North America Seed Fund while continuing to be actively involved as a General Partner in the Early Growth Funds. He also leads White Star Capital’s Toronto office today.
He has worked on several key investments in North America and Europe, including Borrowell (Series A), Vention (Seed), Dialogue (Series A), Freshly (Series C), Clark (Series B), and Ledn (Seed). Several of these have already delivered outstanding returns, with Freshly sold to Nestlé for $1.5B, Dialogue acquired by Sun Life for $365M, and Vention achieving a $1B valuation in 2022.
Sanjay also spearheaded White Star Capital’s expansion into Southeast Asia in 2019 while completing a part-time MBA at INSEAD. Acting as the first member of the team in Singapore, he led several Southeast Asian investments and played a key role in establishing the firm’s presence in the region.
