Daryl Johnston is a managing director of Technology Banking with Silicon Valley Bank. Based in Toronto, Daryl and his team deliver the bank’s core loan products as well as insights, connections and solutions that help Canada’s innovation-sector companies to scale. With more than 25 years of deep finance experience and technology knowledge, Daryl has developed a strong reputation as a “power networker”; he has a proven ability to understand a client’s business, identify opportunities and provide valuable guidance and services that achieve results.  In 2020, Daryl joined SVB — a bank sharply focused on serving the technology sector — for the unique opportunity to help entrepreneurs successfully solve one of these key requirements.

Prior to joining SVB, Daryl was the head of business development for Deloitte’s national Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) industry group and a member of Deloitte’s TMT executive team in Canada. In these roles, he worked with early emerging, private and public fast-growth clients across a broad range of industry sub-sectors, including telecom, software, hardware, fintech and social and digital media. 

Over the years, Daryl has further developed his vast network through his engagement in a variety of business and tech-focused organizations, including Canada’s Best Managed Companies program and Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 program. He was also a former member of the Canadian Innovation Exchange Advisory Board and has served as a judge in several TMT business competitions.
